The spectrum of the cosmic background radiation indicates that half of the activities including star formation and black hole accretion in the universe were hidden by dust. Indeed, in the cosmic noon (z~2) when both star formation and quasar activities are at their peaks, the majority of galaxy growth occurred in ultraluminous dusty galaxies. Such galaxies can only be effectively studied in the far-IR and millimeter/sub-millimeter wavebands. Unfortunately, ground-based mm/submm instruments only started to provide large dusty galaxy samples in the last decade. In this talk, I will introduce our JCMT large program: SCUBA-2 Ultra Deep Imaging EAO Survey (STUDIES), for high-redshift dusty galaxies. I will present our recent results from STUDIES, including the role of galaxy mergers in dusty star formation, evolution of IR luminosity functions and dust mass, and a machine-learning approach that leads to sample sizes of almost 10^4, which enables us to connect dusty galaxies with the underlying dark matter halos. STUDIES is an ongoing survey, and we welcome people to join and use our data.
